It is only through this posture of openness that we can discern meaningful, missionary responses to the pressing issues facing our communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Among the significant topics addressed during the plenary was the Church\u2019s response to questions of <strong>human sexuality and gender identity<\/strong>. Archbishop Richards highlighted the importance of a forthcoming document that aims to bring clarity and guidance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;There is much confusion today around human dignity and identity. The upcoming document will reaffirm that our gender is a sacred gift from God\u2014not something defined by cultural trends or personal perception. This is not just a message for bishops, but a teaching tool for all leaders in the Church.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">He emphasized the hope that this teaching will equip clergy and lay leaders alike to respond pastorally and truthfully to one of the most challenging conversations of our time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As the AEC continues its mission of guiding the Catholic Church throughout the Caribbean, Archbishop Richards expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host this year\u2019s meeting and his optimism for the fruits it will bear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;We pray that the work we have begun here\u2014rooted in communion, participation, and mission\u2014will strengthen the witness of the Church in our region and beyond.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Stay connected with Catholic Voice Jamaica<\/strong> for more insights, interviews, and updates on the life of the Church in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Archbishop Kenneth Richards reflects on the 69th Annual Plenary of the Antilles Episcopal Conference, hosted in Kingston.
